Claire is a scholar and writer who turns great ideas into well-crafted prose. With a Ph.D. in English from The Johns Hopkins University and more than a decade of teaching experience at JHU and Stanford, she empathizes with the pressures academics face at highly competitive institutions. Her M.A. in poetry from Boston University, where she was the Assistant Poetry Editor for Agni Magazine, has helped her cultivate her expertise in the art and pleasure language. According to one reviewer, “her elegant prose has its own beat,” making her book Exquisite Masochism, “a pleasurable as well as persuasive read.” Her writing has appeared in n+1, The New York Times, Public Books, and The Los Angeles Review of Books. Claire is based in California and enjoys working with public scholars, scholars in humanities fields that require close reading and textual interpretation, and early career scholars developing their academic voices.
