Anne has a deep understanding of the challenges that faculty members face as writers, and, in particular, the challenges confronting faculty who are women, first-generation, or parents. Many of the scholars we’ve referred to Anne have told us that working with her has transformed their writing practices: Anne has helped them establish sustainable and fulfilling writing practices, has helped them unlock new ideas and engage with new audiences, and has enabled them to feel a renewed sense of energy and excitement about their scholarly work. Anne approaches coaching with creativity and empathy, and draws on her wealth of skill expertise in writing, editing, and publishing. Do you work with institutions?
We very much enjoy providing services for colleges and universities. We offer individual coaching and group workshops as well as other bespoke services.
How does individual coaching work for institutions?
When institutions arrange for their faculty to receive individual academic coaching, it is the same experience as for self-referred, self-paying clients. There are just a few administrative differences: the Transform phase lasts 3 months instead of 2, and it’s paid for by the department, division, or institution.
What about group workshops?
We currently offer 3 workshops for colleges and universities:
Transform Your Writing Practice In this online workshop series scholars transform the way they approach academic writing and get the tools they need to make progress on what they really want to achieve. They learn how to create better habits, develop a "growth mindset," and find more enthusiasm for bringing their writing to engaged audiences while handling the challenges of making time for writing, teaching, service responsibilities – and the rest of life. Participants leave feeling more energized to write for a designated time each day and to engage with "big idea" writing with less worry, fewer distractions, and greater satisfaction. We meet 1 hour per week for 6 weeks, with up to 6 participants for each group.
Refresh Your Writing Practice This 1-hour online workshop helps those who have already participated in Transform Your Writing Practice get each new semester or the summer off to the best start. This workshop allows for an unlimited number of participants.
How To Be a Public Scholar Public scholarship pushes faculty to sharpen their thinking, refine their arguments, and ask bigger, more meaningful questions. And it allows them to influence audiences far beyond the academy. Over 8 weeks, we approach the subject through lectures, conversations, writing exercises, and facetime with journalists and editors. Participants will learn how to pitch a piece and then to carry it through the process of writing, revising, and publishing for a general audience. By extending their reach beyond academia to the wider world, faculty will discover how they can impact public discourse and raise their institution’s profile as they raise their own. We meet 1 hour per week for 8 weeks. (We can assist the hosting institution to arrange for a ninth session with their communications or news office.) This workshop can accommodate up to 10 participants in each group.
